Guests are welcome to walk anywhere in the grounds and the hotel’s neighbours are happy to extend the invitation on their land as well. However, please follow the country code and close the gates behind you (or leave if they were previously open).

Gratuity:

Farm Lodge does not have a service charge, however, should guests wish to reward courtesy and good service, this is entirely voluntary. All tips are divided equally between the staff.

History:

Farm Lodge was built as an East India Company planter’s house circa 1670.

The Emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte visited Farm Lodge on horseback during his early days of incarceration on St Helena and wished to live here. However, he was refused by Governor Hudson Lowe who was worried of his possible escape via Lemon Valley which is on the leeward side of the island.

The octagonal wine cooler situated in our dining room and the chaise lounge in the hall came from Longwood House and originally belonged to Napoleon.
